Andre Paras and the AMA Titans proved a big hit in their debut in the Sta. Lucia Land-NCRAA after running over Philippine Merchant Maritime School, 93-61, at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Considered as the face of the league, Paras had a solid debut by finishing with 15 points, including three three-pointers, while grabbing 20 rebounds and blocking six shots.
"With Andre getting the rebounds, we were able to run more and score on transition," said AMA coach Mark Herrera.
The Titans raced to a 14-0 lead and never looked back as a team composed of a mixture of seniors and juniors players showed admirable cohesion.
Juan Carlo Garcia and Genmar Bragais shared scoring honors for AMA as they tallied 18 points apiece.
The league, which is backed by Sta. Lucia Land and outfitted by LGR Sportswear, ushered its 25th season with a colorful opening ceremonies.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez was the keynote speaker and guest of honor.
Former PBA chairman and longtime Sta. Lucia executive Buddy Encarnado declared the games open. Encarnado is the new general manager of the league while Bai Cristobal is the commissioner.
