PHILIP Paniamogan scored 28 points and helped Jose Rizal University get back to its winning ways with an 82-73 drubbing of University of Perpetual Help on Wednesday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Michael Mabulac added 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Razak Abdulwahab grabbed a team-high 14 boards for the Heavy Bombers, who finished with a 4-2 card in Group A.
Their quarterfinal hopes now depend on other teams including group-leaders Southwestern University (2-0) and De La Salle (1-1).
JRU registered a stunning win over UAAP champion La Salle two weeks ago, but suffered a loss against University of the East on Saturday.
“After a big win, we need to play consistent basketball. After a big win (over La Salle), they relaxed. Now after coming off a loss, babawi’t babawi ‘yan. We had a strong start and the effort was there,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses.
Perpetual Help (4-2) lost its second game in a row. The Altas will face La Salle next on May 31, with their playoff hopes hinging on the result of the game.
Paniamogan had 16 points in the first half to finish with five triples for the game in pacing the Heavy Bombers. His back-to-back threes eventually sealed the game as JRU took a comfortable 78-69 lead.
