Wamar, Ebondo show way as CEU Scorpions score fifth straight victory and stop CdSL Griffin's win run at five

    Sep 25, 2017

VETERAN guard Orlan Wamar Jr. came off the bench to lead a second-quarter run and defending champion Centro Escolar University defeated erstwhile streaking Colegio de San Lorenzo, 82-76, on Monday to seize the solo lead in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League Season 2 at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque City.

The 5-foot-9 Wamar had a season-best 17 points, 10 coming the second period that enabled CEU to take control and build enough cushion to hold off CdSL’s late fightback.

“That’s the Orlan Wamar of old that we’ve been waiting for,” said CEU coach Yong Garcia.

Wamar made four of his five three-point attempts while adding six assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Congolese center Rod Ebondo had 26 points and 13 rebounds as the Scorpions scored their fifth straight win while stopping the Griffins’ five-game winning run.

Souleman Chabi Yo had 21 points and 15 rebounds, Jon Gabriel scored 17 and Rick Baldevia added 16 for the Griffins.
