THE Nueva Ecija Granary Buffalos are determined to nourish the province’s talents through their participation in the National Basketball League-Pilipinas.
Nueva Ecija vice governor Emmanuel Antonio Umali formally made the Granary Buffalos’ participation in the homegrown basketball league official recently through a signing ceremony last August 9 with NBL-Pilipinas executive vice president and commissioner Rhose Montreal and vice president for basketball operations John Edward Aquino.
Mark Lyn Ingusan, who played in the NBL for three seasons, will serve as the head coach of the team. Ram Ryan Araujo and Lexlear Vera are the assistant coaches, while Jun Patrick Cunanan is the assistant team manager.
Umali, fondly called as ‘Doc Anthony’ in the province, is fervent in his desire to develop local basketball talents in the province.
“He is really committed to homegrown basketball,” Montreal said. “In fact, he will send his team to full general physical check up, get them insurance, and hire a sports vision doctor to take care of his players.”
The Granary Buffalos will play their first game in the NBL-Pilipinas President’s Cup on Friday with a game against Sulong Zambales at Batang Gapo at the Subic Sports Complex.
The team’s first home game will be on September 1 with a match against Valenzuela Workhorse at the Nueva Ecija Coliseum in Palayan City, which will coincide with the province’s celebration of the Unang Sigaw ng Nueva Ecija.
