CARL Tamayo and Terrence Fortea guided Nazareth School of National University to a 95-83 trouncing of La Salle Greenhills on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena, making the Bullpups the first back-to-back Division 1 champion in the 2019 Chooks-to-Go NBTC League National Finals.
The Bullpups duo's masterful performance over the Greenies capped off a dominant year that also saw NU claim the UAAP juniors champoinship at the expense of Kai Sotto and the Ateneo Blue Eaglets.
Tamayo powered NU with 24 points and 18 rebounds while Fortea scored 23 points built on four treys. His final three-pointer served as the dagger to the heart of La Salle Greenhlls, 95-80, at the final 1:33 mark.
Cyril Gonzales added 14 points as Reyland Torres got 12 points and 16 boards in the win.
The Bullpups survived the ejection of starting point guard Gerry Abadiano in the final four minutes after he was slapped a second unsportsmanlike foul of the game. He wound up with 10 points and two rebounds.
NU shook off LSGH in the second quarter, using a 13-2 tear to turn a 21-all deadlock into a 45-23 lead.
Inand Fornilos paced LSGH with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Joshua David contributed 17 points, six boards, and two assists.
NU's Fortea and Abadiano were named to the Mythical Team together with LSGH's David, San Beda's Rhayyan Amsali, and FEU-Diliman's RJ Abarrientos.
FilAm Sports USA's Jalen Green was hailed as the Most Outstanding Player while San Beda's Tony Ynot was honored with the Best Defensive Player award.
