GERRY Abadiano scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half as National University defeated Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 71-47, on Thursday in the semifinals of the NBTC National Finals at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Abadiano, who is set to play for NU next season after undergoing residency following his transfer from Adamson, caught fire in the second half as the Bullpups ended the Cinderella run of the Magis Eagles.
Terrence Fortea had 17 points in the contest as NU outscored Ateneo de Cebu, 38-19, in the second half.
The Bullpups will face La Salle Greenhills in the finals after the NCAA champion beat Chiang Kai Shek College in the other semifinal battle on Thursday.
“They played really well. Masyadong mataas ‘yung three-point percentage nila. That’s one thing we have to control. Siyempre ‘yung La Salle champion sa NCAA. We really need to prepare for them,” said NU coach Goldwin Monteverde.
Eroll Pastor had 14 points and 14 rebounds, but was the only double-digit scorer for the Magis Eagles after they beat top-seed Ateneo de Manila in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
The Magis Eagles were also unable to make a return trip to the finals after they defeated San Beda in last year’s championship game.
