NATIONAL University won in its first game in the 2015 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup with a 76-60 win over University of San Jose Recoletos on Friday in San Juan City.
Sophomore Mohammad Salim led NU’s balanced scoring attack with 10 points in the wire-to-wire victory by the reigning UAAP champions.
Rev Diputado, another second-year player, had nine points, while Alfred Aroga and Reden Celda chipped in eight points for NU, which fielded sixteen players against the Jaguars.
“We tried to use a lot of players today that’s the purpose of joining the tournament. We tried to give minutes to our new guys to get the feel of what college basketball is,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano.
Iron Suano led USJR in scoring with 15 points.
