J-JAY Alejandro scored 25 points, including the go-ahead lay-up, as National University escaped with an 87-85 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College in its first game in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
Alejandro scored a breakaway lay-up with 13.5 seconds left in the fourth off a broken play as NU eventually took the lead for good to complete its comeback after trailing by 14 in the first quarter.
Bulldogs coach Jamike Jarin, though, was not thrilled with the win in his debut, especially with his team's sluggish start.
“I’d like to forget it right now because we don’t deserve to win with the way we played,” said Jarin. “The reason why the result went to our side was they got tired. Siguro if it was a five-quarter game, we would have won.”
Alejandro made up for his poor shooting with his clutch heroics as he only made 9-of-21 shots for the Bulldogs.
Matt Salem added 20 points and seven rebounds for NU.
Former Adamson cager Jerome Garcia finished with 16 points, while Hamadou Laminou had 15 points, 18 rebounds, and six blocks for the Generals.
