MANDAUE CITY – National University guns for a finals slot when it battles University of the Visayas Friday night in the semifinals of the 7th Mandaue Mayor’s Cup at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
The Bulldogs made the showdown against the reigning Cebu Schools and Athletic Federation Inc (Cesafi) titleholders possible after routing Raphael’s Café, 80-52, late Thursday night.
Alfred Aroga and Troy Rosario had 13 points each to pace the Bulldogs, while JJ Alejandro chipped in 11.
The win evened NU’s record at 1-1 in Group A.
UV meanwhile completed a sweep of Group B with an 80-49 rout of University of Cebu in a fight-marred game.
A total of four players were ejected from the game arising from two separate scuffles.
Green Lancers forward Thirdy Miranda and Webmasters big man Raffy Octobre were thrown out during the third period for fist-fighting, before JV Veloso of UV and UC counterpart Carlos Tabaquero followed suit in the payoff period for figuring in a near-melee.
The other semifinals match-up pits Southwestern University against University of San Jose-Recoletos.
