FORMER PBA commissioner Noli Eala lambasted the personalities involved in the controversial Pilipinas VisMin Cup game between Lapu-Lapu City and Siquijor on Wednesday.
Eala took to Twitter to said that the players didn’t act like professionals and should be held accountable for Wednesday’s dubious game marred by questionable missed free throws and blown wide-open lay-ups.
“Players who played that VisMin Cup farcical game should certainly be held accountable for passing themselves as pros. So should everyone directly involved or who made this game possible,” wrote Eala.
Eala joins several basketball personalities who condemned the match that was halted at halftime with Lapu-Lapu ahead, 27-13.
The game saw players missing free throws and makeable open lay-ups, putting the integrity of the contest into question.
The Games and Amusements Board is already investigating the matter, with sanctions expected to be issued to those involved.
“Accountability is what is lacking in governance. Keep it real,” added Eala.
In a separate tweet, Eala also thinks that leagues should go through a probationary status before becoming a full-fledged professional league.
“If this had been a barangay or a non-pro league, nobody would say anything. But the GAB gave a pro tag to the VisMin Cup without even verifying its qualifications. I think all leagues applying as pro should go thru a ‘proby’ period before getting GAB nod,” Eala added.
