Well-rested CEU puts five-game win run at stake in clash with University of Batangas in UCBL

DEFENDING champion Centro Escolar University tries to extend its winning run to six games when it battles University of Batangas on Thursday in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 2 at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat, Parañaque City.

Game time is set at 12 noon with the well-rested Scorpions heavily favored to beat a team which just notched its first win after dropping its first five games.

The UB Brahmans ended a series of heartbreaks with a 79-77 thriller over the Technological Institute of the Philippines Engineers last Saturday – thanks to the heroics of African big man Raoul Yemeli and John Caspe.

The Engineers can redeem themselves from a shocker of a defeat and put their title bid back on track when they clash with the Olivarez College Sea Lions at 2 p.m.

Though the last time they played was 10 days ago, the CEU Scorpions were rampant, crushing erstwhile unbeaten Colegio de San Lorenzo, 82-76.

While coach Yong Garcia is not taking the Brahmans lightly, he has challenged his boys to give their all every game.

“I still believe that our greatest foe remains ourselves. That’s why I’m egging my players to always put in an extra effort in terms of making each and everyone a better version of themselves,” he said.

Olivarez College is tipped as the slight favorites since it is determined to pick up from where it left off following a 91-82 win over skidding Bulacan State University last Saturday.

Out to lead the Engineers’ bid are veterans Jorey Napoles, Christian Daguro, John Palisoc and Tevita Latu.
