UV Green Lancers beat SWU Cobras in title match of Leyte preseason tournament
The Lancers fight back from an early double-digit deficit to claim the trophy. 

LEYTE – The University of the Visayas Green Lancers topped the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras, 78-63, on Monday to capture the championship in the 2017 St. Isidore Parish Inter-Collegiate Basketball Invitational Cup.

The win netted the reigning Cesafi champions the grand cash prize of P100,000 while the Cobras got P70,000.

Liberian reinforcement Bassieru Sackour and Cesafi MVP Rey Suerte combined for 35 points as the Green Lancers recovered after trailing by 10 in the first half.

The Cobras held a 37-32 lead but the Green Lancers fought back with a 23-10 blast to take the upper hand, 55-47.

SWU came within six, 51-57, but UV shut down any hopes of a comeback with baskets from Sackour, Suerte and Tristan Albina as the lead grew to 20, 78-58.

Jun Luz led SWU with 21 points.

University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers thwarted the University of San Carlos Warriors in overtime, 74-68, in the third place match of the tournament organized by Fr. Joselito Catubig. 

Six-foot-7 Nigerian import Rich Managor led the Panthers with 18 points.
