UP Maroons rally past Ateneo to stay unbeaten in Smart City Hoops U25 Summer Classic

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines stayed unscathed after beating Ateneo, 71-66, recently in the Smart City Hoops Under-25 Summer Classic at the Greenhills West courts.

Bright Akhuetie had 22 points, seven rebounds, and six steals, while Juan Gomez de Liano added 17 points including three threes as the Fighting Maroons (4-0) kept their unbeaten slate going.

UP coach Bo Perasol was proud of his players for passing a big test in Ateneo, the reigning UAAP champions. The Maroons won after trailing by as many as 12 points, 36-24, in the first half.

“I told the guys that we need to figure out how to beat the best team. That is not to say na it’s their best showing but at least we could tell ourselves that we have a chance against the champions,” said Perasol.

SJ Belangel had 16 points for the Blue Eagles, who dropped to 1-2.

UP previously defeated College of Saint Benilde, 56-54; Letran, 75-69; and Lyceum, 88-68.

Larry Muyang had 13 points and 11 rebounds as Letran beat CSB, 62-59, to record its second win in four games.
