PNP holds off DOH for second straight win, as DOJ deals Jimwell Torion-led DA first loss in UNTV Cup

REIGNING titlist Philippine National Police (PNP) notched its second straight win with 98-91 win over Department of Health even as National Housing Authority (NHA) barged into the win column in style in the 6th UNTV Cup held Wednesday at the Pasig City Sports Center.

The PNP Responders one again leaned on Antonio Tolentino and Olan Omiping to dodge the upset bid of the Health Achievers in Group A action.

Tolentino led the Responders with 21 points while Omiping added 19.

The Health Achievers slipped to 1-1 – the same record of the NHA Builders which trounced the PDEA Drug Busters, 111-88, in the tournament offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.

The Builders started slow, trailing the Drug Busters, 23-14, in the first 10 minutes before exploding for 35 points in the next canto to take full control of the game.

Alvin Vitug was almost unstoppable he scored 32 points while also getting big help from Antonio Lustestica and Ralph Tibay who combined for 40 points.

In the lone Group B match, Department of Justice started its campaign on winning note by downing the Department of Agriculture, 86-82, in the event organized by the UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon for the country’s public servants.

Eric Mabazza got the better of his shootout with former PBA player Jimwell Torion to lead the Justice Boosters with 27 points.

The loss was the first for the Food Masters in two games despite getting 23 points from Torion.
