University of the Visayas takes control early and cruises to victory in teh final match of the Passerelle tournament.

CEBU — University of the Visayas beat Holy Child College, 65-46, to win the national title in the Passerelle division of the BEST Center Tournament on Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena.

The Baby Lancers, eager to get back after suffering a 41-55 loss to the Mindanao champions earlier in the day, zoomed to an 18-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of action before Denzel Sabroso canned three three-pointers in the second for a 35-20 lead at halftime.

Sabroso finished the game with 12, all coming from beyond the arc, while James Zenarosa chipped in eight.

Holy Child’s top gun Allan Beltran, a burly forward, managed just nine markers, all in the final period.

“Best Passerelle team in the country, that sounds so good to hear. As happy as I am that we are the national champions I'm just happy for Cebu basketball in general,” said Gerald Anthony Gullas, also UV assistant vice president and Cebu first district congressman.

“These past two national competitions PCCL (Philippine Collegiate Champions League) and Milo BEST showed that the gap between Manila and Cebu basketball is narrowing. As a provincial team and winning it all against the giants of Luzon and Manila makes it sweeter,” he added.
