UCBL teams battle National U Bulldogs, JRU Bombers, CSB Blazers in summer invitational

UNIVERSITIES and Colleges Basketball League champion Centro Escolar University get the chance to show their mettle against teams from and NCAA and UAAP in the UCBL Summer Invitational starting on Thursday at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.

The CEU Scorpions won the inaugural UCBL tournament last year and will try to make it two titles but will have their hands full against the UAAP’s National University and NCAA’s Jose Rizal University and College of St. Benilde.

“Their participation shows that they recognize UCBL as a good league worthy to test their readiness for their respective leagues,” said UCBL president Franklin Evidente.

Also taking part are Olivarez College and Diliman College.

CEU collides with Olivarez at 10:45 a.m. in a rematch of last year’s finals, while NU goes up against Diliman College at 12:30 p.m.

Handled by PBA veteran TY Tang, the CSB Blazers tangle with the Vergel Meneses-mentored JRU Bombers at 9 a.m.

NU is coached by Jamike Jarin.

The top two teams after the double eliminations square off in the finals with the No. 1 enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage in the tournament supported by Ever Bilena-Blackwater, Smart, Advanced Solution, Inc. and Manila Bulletin
