EXPECT more exciting games and more participating teams when the UCBL (Universities and Colleges Basketball League) stages its second season this September.

UCBL president Franklin Evidente made this vow after signing an agreement with ACA Raise, saying at least three teams are knocking on their door to join the coming season.

ACA Raise, according to Evidente, will help “market” the league so it can sustain its growth following the success of its inaugural season where seven teams took part and Centro Escolar University emerged as the first champion school.

The league plans to bring the number of school participants to a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 10.

Aside from CEU, other regular members of the league are Bulacan State University, Colegio de San Lorenzo, Diliman College, Technological Institute of the Philippines, Olivarez College and the University of Batangas.

Outside of the big leagues like UAAP and NCAA, only UCBL games were televised and shown nationwide on a same-day telecast on IBC 13 in primetime from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

“We delivered a high quality broadcast every playing day because they hired experienced TV anchors, courtside reporters, directors, cameramen and production crew,” said Evidnte.

On top of that, teams were able to publicize their campuses, facilities, course offerings and team members of their participant schools through the telecast of a 5-minute video of each school.

By hiring SBP referees and experienced table officials, UCBL lived up to its promise to conduct a professional and well-organized tournament based on integrity and respect for the game.
