SWU Cobras stay unscathed in Cesafi caging after romp over Webmasters

CEBU CITY – The Southwestern University Cobras completed a sweep of the first round of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament eliminations with a 75-36 romp over the University of Cebu Webmasters on on Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Cobras, last year’s Cesafi runners-up, once again got impressive performances from imports Landry Sanjo and Bendly Valdor who combined to deal the Webmasters their fourth straight defeat.

Sanjo, the 6-foot-7 banger from Cameroon, had 19 points, five rebounds and two assists while American Valdor added 16 markers highlighted by a thunderous two-handed slam dunk that capped a 14-0 run at the end of the third period.

That pivotal stretch essentially put the game away for the Cobras, 53-24, heading to the final frame.

Former Far Eastern University guard Jovanie 'John Lloyd' Luz also had a solid all-around outing with 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Cobras.

In juniors action, the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors (3-0) stayed unbeaten with a 65-64 squeaker over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens (2-3). Jean Jacque Antigua showed his mettle as he tuned the Wildkittens up for 16 points and 14 boards.

The University of Cebu Baby Webmasters (3-2) also surged past the Don Bosco Greywolves (0-5), 75-37.
