In-form Sta. Lucia slows down SCTEX as Euro-Med continues resurgence in PCBL
Former PBA player Eloy Poligrates of Euro-Med challenges the defense of Supremo Lex import Amado Laminou.

NEW recruits Jam Jamito and Paolo Javelona played another steady game as Sta. Lucia won back-to-back games for the first time in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup, dumping Byaheng SCTEX, 85-72, on Wednesday night at the Marikina Sports Center.

Euro-Med also picked up its second straight win after defeating Supremo Lex, 97-87, in the day's other game.

Sta. Lucia capped its first round campaign by snapping Byaheng SCTEX’s three-game winning streak. It also put the Realtors in solo second spot behind unbeaten Mighty Sports with a 4-2 win-loss record in this tournament supported by Spalding, Hahn Manila, Gerry’s Grill, LGR, During’s Barbeque and Restaurant and Ambucore.

Jamito, a 6-foot-5 do-it-all frontliner, came a rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Not known as a scorer, Javelona finished with only five points on four attempts, but he dished out four assists and completed two steals.

“This guy came from a very good program. I just told the other guards na huwag silang magkumpiyansa because I will give the floor to anyone who could set up the team better. Javelona showed his worth tonight,” said Sta. Lucia coach Bonnie Garcia.

Also stepping up for the Realtors was Mark Romero, who contributed 15 points built around four triples.

Euro-Med banked on ex-pros Eloy Poligrates and Lester Alvarez in handing Supremo Lex its fifth straight loss.

Poligrates, who played for Tropang TNT, Air 21, NLEX and Kia in the PBA, finished with 21 points while Alvarez, a member of the 2014 grand slam champion San Mig Coffee, added 17 markers.

It was the second win in a row for Euro-Med since bringing in Poligrates, Alvarez, another former PBA player in Eric Salamat and comebacking Pari Llagas, to its lineup.

The team ended the first round with a 2-4 win-loss record, tied for fifth to sixth places with Foton.
