St. Clare ends stint on a high note as JRU bows out of PCCL qualifiers with a whimper

ST. CLARE College defeated Jose Rizal University, 88-85, on Wednesday at the JRU gym to finish its Philippine Collegiate Champions League NCR qualifiers campaign on a high note.

Chris Bitoon drained two free throws with 23 seconds left to take an 86-85 lead, and Aris Dionisio sank two charities of his own for a three-point lead. MJ Dela Virgen missed a trhee-point try as time expired.

Dionisio had 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Junjie Hallare added 16 points for the Saints, who outscored the Heavy Bombers, 22-12, in the fourth quarter. Bitoon had 13 markers for the Naascu champions.

St. Clare, which ended up in second with a 1-1 record in Group A, now prepares for its PBA D-League stint where the Saints wear the Gamboa Coffee Mix colors in the Aspirants Cup.

Jed Mendoza had 18 points as JRU ended up winless in two matches in the NCR qualifiers.
