COLEGIO de San Lorenzo defeated Olivarez College, 65-54, on Monday to rejoin defending champion Centro Escolar University on top of the 2nd Universities and Colleges Basketball League in Parañaque City.

Soulemane Chabi Yo came through with another double-double of 25 points and13 rebounds and had two blocks for the Griffins.

CdSL’s win was its fifth straight and 11th overall, tying the Scorpions for the lead.

Jan Formento scored 10 points for the Griffins.

Diliman College snapped a four-game skid with an 87-64 drubbing of University of Batangas, 87-64, and tied Olivarez for third with an 8-5 mark.

Johnnel Bauzon shone brightest for the Blue Dragons with game-highs of 25 points and seven steals while Senegalese center Adama Dikahite tallied10 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

“I told my players that the Final Four starts for us today and I’m just glad that they responded well to the challenge,” said Diliman College coach Rensy Bajar, who got 33 points from the Blue Dragons off the Brahmans’ 30 errors behind their pressure defense.

The Griffins also hardly felt the absence of the big man Jon Gabriel who was selected by TNT KaTropa at 11th overall during the PBA Rookie Draft.

CdSL coach Boni Garcia noted the defense worked well for them.

“That’s been our calling card and I’m proud with the way my players have been embracing our identity.”

Richmon Sunga was the lone Olivarez player to score in double figures with 10 points.

After a tight first quarter action, the Griffins raced to a commanding 54-31 lead off a Ryan Alvarado jumper.
