Satria Muda Pertamina holds steady to keep NLEX-SCTEX winless in three outings in Merlion Cup

SATRIA Muda Pertamina used a furious second quarter blitz to add to NLEX-SCTEX's woes and run away with a 104-90 victory in the Merlion Cup at the OCBC Arena in Singapore on Friday.

Gary Jacobs topscored for Satria with 33 points, including back-to-back triples in the waning moments for the final score. 

The first of those two fended off NLEX-SCTEX's last-gasp rally that sliced an 18-point deficit to 10 after a Toto Villarias three-pointer, 98-88. 

But that was the closest the Philippine team could get as they remained winless in the group stages, 0-3.

NLEX-SCTEX awaits the outcome of the other matches today to determine which team they will face for the battle for fifth place.

Behind Jacobs and former PBA import Shawn Taggart, the Indonesian team outscored the Road Warriors, 31-20, in the second period to take a 58-44 lead.

They hardy slowed down after that.

Taggart had 29 points and 10 rebounds, while another former PBA reinforcement Dior Lowhorn wound up with eight points.

Jason Perkins had another stellar outing for the Philippine side, dropping 32 points and collaring 15 rebounds.

Villarias added 26 markers.
