Evan Nelle shows way as San Beda beats NU to arrange PSSBC final vs CKSC

SAN Beda and Chiang Kai Shek College arranged a finals face-off after beating separate rivals on Wednesday in the 6th Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) Dickies Underwear Cup at the SGS Stadium.

The Red Cubs leaned on a near triple double by Evan Nelle to beat National University, 78-76,  while the Blue Dragons ended the title bid of University of Visayas with a 91-60 victory in the semifinals.

The two teams now clash in the championship game set to be played on Thursday, 3:45 p.m. at the SGS Stadium.

Nelle’s all-around game produced 15 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists for the Red Cubs, who raced to a 44-28 lead at the half before staving off a late Bullpups rally in the fourth.

Germy Mahinay had 14 points and nine rebounds for San Beda, which is eyeing its second PSSBC crown.

Terrence Fortea contributed a game-high 22 points for NU but his efforts went for naught for the Bullpups.

John Galinato had 19 points while Jason Celis added 18 points for the Blue Dragons, who blew the game wide open with a 36-16 first period lead.

Ivan Maata had 13 points, while Jaerolan Umandac finished with 10 points for the Baby Lancers, who will face NU in the battle for third place.
