Emboldened by UCBL stint, LPU-Batangas' Rommel Saliente trains sights on NCAA, D-League
Rommel Saliente is hoping to still play for a big collegiate league or go straight to the PBA developmental league.

ROMMEL Saliente is hoping to hit the big leagues in the metro after honing his skills with a provincial team.

The 5-foot-9 guard for Lyceum Batangas did not waste the opportunity to showcase his talent when the Pirates got a stint in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League in his final playing year with the school.

He put his name in the record books of the young league, becoming the first to post a triple-double when he delivered 18 points, 11 rebounds and 17 assists in LPU-Batangas’ 114-106 win over Bulacan State University.

“Nagpapasalamat ako ng malaki kasi sa last playing year ko, nagkaroon kami ng pagkakataon na sumali sa mga televised na league,” said Saliente.

“Sa amin po, kumukuha po kami ng experience. Nagpapasalamat kami sa suporta ng school sa amin at sa hard work ng team,” said Saliente.

Now Saliente hopes his talent will not go unnoticed, as he eyes a stint in the NCAA for LPU in Manila or the PBA D-League.

It has been four years since the young player from Pembo in Makati decided to take his talent to Batangas, and play for the LPU-B Pirates in the NCAA South, and he believes he made the right choice.

“Actually, nag-try po ako dun. May kapitbahay kami na player doon. Pinag-try ako,” said the 21-year-old Saliente.

“Proud na proud po ako sa sarili ko na first in the league tapos first time ko sa liga. Kung may pagkakataon po (sa LPU-Manila), o kahit sa D-League po,” said Caspe.
