Foton clips SCTEX in two-overtime thriller on Mikee Reyes' last-gasp three-pointer

GUARD Mikee Reyes  delivered a game-winning basket with four tenths of a second left to lift Foton to an exciting 102-99 double overtime win over newcomer Byaheng SCTEX in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup on Wednesday at the Makati Sports Center.

With go-to-guy Levi Hernandez out with a sprained ankle, Reyes took matters into his own hands in the final offensive play, sinking a 25-footer from right quarter court to send the Toplander into a tie for second to third places in the standings with the Sta. Lucia Realtors at 2-1.

“Biggest shot  of his life. Matibay-tibay ang loob nitong si Mikee,” said Foton coach Budds Reyes.

Reyes was one of the seven players who finished in double figures for Foton as he led the way with 25 points, including six triples.

Cedric Ablaza added 20 markers, Jeric Nacpil contributed 14, Ibrahim Ouattara had 12, Marlon Gomez chipped in 11 and Allen Enriquez and Ed Rivera had 10 apiece for Foton.

Byaheng SCTEX, the champion in the MVP Olympics, was led by Mark Pangilinan, who finished with 20 points.

Jumbo Plastic, which struggled in the first three games of this tournament being supported by Hahn Manila, Spalding, Ambucore, Gerry’s Grill and LGR, bounced back by outplaying Supremo Lex, 79-70, in the second game.

Founders Cup Finals MVP Jeff Viernes led the Linoleum Giants with 24 points as inaugural staging champion Jumbo Plastic improved its record to 2-2 for solo fourth.

Supremo Lex absorbed its second loss in three matches.
