Bull Squad rules Philippine leg to earn spot in Red Bull Reign 3x3 World Finals

THE ‘Bull Squad’ is headed to Washington DC to represent the Philippines in the Red Bull Reign 3x3 World Finals after ruling the national finals last Saturday at the Nagtahan Bridge Court, Pasig River in Manila.

Composed of two Fil-Canadian PBA hopefuls in Clay Crellin and Glenn Gravengard, along with Kitt Paolo Balmori and Nigerian team captain Obinna Ezeike, the Bull Squad outlasted seven other teams, one which included former PBA MVP in Willie Miller, in a battle of attrition and endurance for the tournament which started early in the morning and ended mid-afternoon.

In the end, it was the ‘Last Chance’ qualifier champion who stood the tallest after besting Team Santa Rosa who ruled the Manila A qualifiers, 27-20, after a series of games in the inaugural streetball festivity.

“The semi-finals were the biggest challenge. We started at 8:30 in the morning, so the other teams had the advantage because they got to rest,” said Crellin after tournament.

“We were hungry. We just wanted it more,” he added.

Now the Bull Squad will be gearing up for the World Finals, competing with teams from 14 other countries sometime later this year.

Tournament director and former PBA star Vince Hizon was happy with the overall turnout of the event and expressed confidence for the Bull Squad as they take their talents to Washington.

“This has been incredible. 3x3 is a great way for teams and individuals to really improve their skills and hone their craft,” said Hizon.

“I’m happy for the Bull Squad, they really are the best team to represent the country at the World Finals.”

Aside from bringing the tournament in the streets of Nagtahan, Red Bull also had a hand in building the community as they cleaned up a portion of the Pasig River leading to the event while bringing the Red Bull Doodle Art finalists Rojan Barcelon and Manuel Liwanag to work on Murals on the base of the bridge.
