FAR Eastern University survived Centro Escolar University, 73-68, to advance to the semifinals of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup on Wednesday at San Juan Arena.

Raymar Jose had 16 points and seven boards, while Mike Tolomia had 13 points and five assists for FEU, who are without Mac Belo and head coach Nash Racela, who are in Singapore for the Southeast Asian Games.

The Tamaraws led by 15 points but allowed the Scorpions to close in with a 9-0 run, with Oneal Arim hitting on back-to-back three-pointers to make it 67-73 with 28.9 seconds left to play.

"Challenge for us is we need to play with consistency," said FEU assistant coach Eric Gonzales.

"We need to play with an attitude of grinding it out and being a hard worker."

"What's important is that we rebounded on the defensive side, those turnovers should never happen again."

Alfred Batino and Mon Abundo combined for 22 points for the CEU, which topped its group in the eliminations with a 7-1 win-loss card.
