Batang Gilas blow past Malaysia to stay unbeaten in Seaba Under-18 caging
Gian Mamuyac led Batang Gilas with 18 points.

GIAN Mamuyac and Joshua Sinclair carried the Philippines over Malaysia, 87-68, on Monday as Batang Gilas inched closer to a finals seat in the 2016 Seaba Under-18 Championship in Medan, Indonesia.

Mamuyac had 18 points, while Sinclair posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in helping Batang Gilas notch their third win in as many games, but not after surviving a tough challenge from the Malaysians in the first period.

The victory put the Philippine youth team on the threshold of a finals seat as the Batang Gilas are on top of the standings with a 3-0 record. Indonesia was playing Thailand at posting time with the hosts' 2-0 win-loss record at stake.

The Philippines started sluggishly and even trailed, 22-24, after the first period. But the Batang Gilas cagers opened the second with 11 unanswered points, led by Mamuyac before Sinclair’s two free throws put them ahead, 33-24.

Jonas Tibayan added 11 points and eight rebounds for Batang Gilas, who will face Singapore on Tuesday.
