PCC Seagulls whip Judenites to move a win away from PCYAA juniors title

HOST Philippine Cultural College (PCC) moved a win away from capturing the Juniors division title of the 3rd Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Basketball Championships by downing defending champion St. Jude Catholic School, 72-61, at the start of their title series on Saturday at the Uno High School gym in Tondo, Manila.

Center Daniel Manalang waxed hot for the second straight game, scoring 14 of his team-high 22 points in the payoff period as the Seagulls outscored the Judenites, 30-16, to take the opener of their best-of-three title series.

The Seagulls, who extended their winning streak to 10 games since the elims, also got significant contributions from  Kimson Chen who had 13 markers – 9 of them in the final quarter – and 13 boards, while John Patrick Garcia and Michael Manansala added 17 and 8 points, respectively.

The PCC Seagulls, who beat Pace Academy in the semis, 78-70, can clinch the title with another win on Monday also at the Uno High School gym.

Meantime, defending champion Makati Gospel Church-New Life Christian Academy drew big games from Ike Jordan Lim, Shane Tan, and McNeil Jason Si to edge Jubilee Christian Academy, 62-60, in Game One of their own title series.

Lim and Si shared scoring honors by finishing with 18 points each, aside from combining for 27 boards, while Tan knocked in 10 points.

The Judenites, who outlasted MGC-NLCA in the semis, 70-66, were led by Kendrick Ong, who had 14 points, while Lance Chan and Maynard Yap added 9 points each.

If a Game Three is necessary, it will be held on Wednesday.
