PERLAS Pilipinas looks to parade an intact squad from its successful run last year when it competes in the 2016 Seaba Women’s Championship set September 20 to 26 in Melacca, Malaysia.

National head coach Patrick Aquino said eight of the 12 players from the 2015 Fiba Asia Women’s Championship will suit up for the Seaba tilt where they will aim for the gold.

The Filipina cagers were coming off an impressive campaign in the Fiba Asia Championship last year where they were promoted to Level I.

“Maganda ‘yung pinakita natin last time sa Fiba Asia. We are hoping that we could get the gold,” said Aquino in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.

The Philippines also hopes to bolster their chances with new players Ara Abaca, Janine Pontejos, and Chack Cabinbin replacing Gemma Miranda, Chovi Borja, Sofia Roman, and Ewon Arayi, who is suffering from dengue.

Amby Almazan, a member of the Southeast Asian Games team in Singapore last year, has also returned to the roster.

“The core of the group is really composed of former Fiba and SEA Games. Magkakasama uli sila,” said Aquino.

The team’s top two scorers Allana Lim and Afril Bernardino, and newly-installed team captain Raiza Palmera-Dy lead the core players of the Perlas Pilipinas squad backed by Ever Bilena.
