JOHN Abad scored 19 points as University of the Visayas edged University of San Carlos, 63-60, on Monday to capture third place in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The Green Lancers leaned on Abad, Francis Arong and Steve Akomo in an 8-2 windup to steal the victory.

Kiefer Lim started a 7-0 run that gave USC a 58-55 lead but the Warriors failed to sustain the momentum in the endgame.

The Green Lancers capped their campaign by winning the bronze after topping the Visayas-Mindanao qualifying games of the league and finishing with a 2-2 win-loss slate in the Elite Eight.

Former UV players Greg Slaughter and JR Quinahan were at the spectator stands to support the Green Lancers play Cesafi runner-up USC.

The Warriors actually had a better Elite Eight record than the Lancers, finishing with a 3-1 record to match eventual champion San Beda. However, it was the Red Lions who advanced to the final by virtue of their win over the Warriors in the Cebu leg of the Elite Eight.
