MANNY V. Pangilinan is hoping the incoming board of trustees and set of officers of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to continue what the outgoing regime has started.

The outgoing SBP president listed four key goals that he encouraged the new set of leaders to keep pursuing.

Foremost is the continuation of the Gilas Pilipinas program and the participation in international events, particularly the 2019 World Cup and the 2020 Olympics.

“It would be excellent to see our national team participate in these two events,” Pangilinan said in his speech during the SBP congress on Monday at Dusit Hotel where the new officers are set to be elected.

The basketball godfather is hoping the new set of leaders to focus on grassroots development, 3-on-3 basketball, and women’s basketball.

Pangilian said he watched parts of the women’s 5-on-5 game of the PBA All-Star weekend on Sunday.

“It was quite an interesting event,” Pangilinan said. “Perhaps we should encourage women’s basketball as well.”

Before listing his four goals, Pangilinan officially endorsed outgoing SBP vice president Al Panlilio to be his successor after almost a decade of service.

“Thank you to all of you who have given me their trust and faith through these years,” Pangilinan said. “But of course, there’s more work to be done. I wish my successor success.”
