Olivarez Sea Lions rip Batangas Brahmans to book return trip to UCBL semifinals

OLIVAREZ College booked its place in the semis of the Universities and Colleges Basketball League, scoring an 81-60 win over also-ran University of Batangas Brahmans on Monday at the Sea Lions gym in Parañaque City.

Paulo Castro led the Sea Lions with 16 points off the bench, while Noy Bermudes and Richmon Sunga tallied 11 points each.

Lyceum-Batangas played the spoiler’s role, stallinng Diliman College’s march to the next round with an 83-82 win.

Rommel Saliente scored 24 points off the bench aside from posting six rebounds, as many assists and three steals to help the Pirates complete their comeback from 15 points down that left the Blue Dragons shaking their heads in disbelief.

“We can always count on Rommel, especially when the game is on the line,” said Lyceum-Batangas coach Dan Acero.

The Pirates improved to 3-7 while handing the Blue Dragons their third straight defeat for a 7-4 mark.

Poor free throw shooting led to Diliman’s downfall, including two by center Adama Diakhite in the last 10 seconds and another two by Jerico Mondala.
