HE'S no longer the head coach of San Beda, but NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez continues to support the Red Lions in their Philippine Collegiate Champions League.

Forced to give up the San Beda job after being installed coach of NLEX in the PBA, Fernandez was spotted sitting behind the Red Lions bench during a 75-62 win over UAAP titlist National University on Monday.

Fernandez, who led the school to two championships in as many seasons in charge, said he still acts as a coaching consultant for San Beda which is now under acting coach Adonis Tierra.

“I’m here to give moral support to the team,” Fernandez said. “As of now, I’m the consultant of San Beda.”

The former PBA guard said he gives inputs every now and then to Tierra, his former coach at Sta. Lucia in the PBA and one of his assistants at San Beda and NLEX, both in the D-League and the pro league.

“I always give inputs to coach Adonis but it is his call. Basta ako, if I have inputs, I give it to the coaching staff. I support coach Adonis,” Fernandez said.

Officially, Fernandez has been replaced by Batang Gilas coach Jamike Jarin. But the Red Lions decided to stick with Fernandez’s staff for the PCCL with nearly the same players representing the NCAA champions in the PCCL.

“Okay naman ‘yun para fresh start din si coach Jamike,” said Fernandez.
