CDSL routs Holy Angel University as unbeaten Griffins cruise to third straight win in NAASCU

COLEGIO de San Lorenzo made it three wins in a row by blasting comebacking Holy Angel University, 89-67, in the NAASCU Season 17 basketball tournament at the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.

Soulemane Chabi Yo asserted himself on both ends of the floor to lead the Ironcon Builders-supported Griffins to their third straight win and the solo lead in Group B.

Chabi Yo, the 6-6 workhorse from South African nation Benin, finished with a double-double of 31 points and 16 rebounds for CdSL, which bagged the MBL Open crown during the offseason.

Chabi struck hardest in the second quarter when  the Griffins turned a close contest into a rout, increasing a seven-point first quarter lead into 23-point advantage by halftime.

The Griffins of coach Boni Garcia and manager Jimi Lim also won over Manuel Luis Quezon University, 101-82 last Aug. 17 and New Era University, 81-63, last Aug. 22.

Equally impressive were  defending champion St. Clare College, which beat City University of Pasay,  103-77, Philippine Christian University, which humbled AMA University, 92-77.for their third win in four matches in Group A; and De Ocampo Memorial College, which shackled Enderun, 99-82, for win No. 2  in Group B.

Junjie Hallare, Mohamed Pare and Aries Dionisio combined for 44 points for the Saints, who won for the third time since losing their opening-day assignment against the Dolphins.

Yves Sason fired 26 points, Von Tambeling added 22 and Michael Ayonayon contributed 21 for the Dolphins, who bounced back from a sorry setback to Rizal Technological University the other day.
