Von Tambeling comes up clutch as PCU edges Lyceum-Subic for second straight win in NAASCU

PHILIPPINE Christian University rode the heroics of Von Tambeling to subdue Lyceum of Subic, 74-72, for its second  straight win in the 17th NAASCU men's basketball tournament at the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.

Tambeling, one of the Dolphins’ most trusted men in offense, nailed a difficult jump shot near the shaded area to give PCU the lead for good, 73-72, with 22.3 seconds left.

After a botched play by Lyceum, Tambeling made one of two free throws to seal the final score.

The win was a fitting follow-up for PCU, which debuted with an upset  89-88 overtime win over defending champion St. Clare College last Aug. 17.

Yves Sason finished with a double-double performance of  24 points and 11 rebounds for the Dolphins. Mike Ayonayon added 18 markers and five rebounds while Tambeling contributed 17 points and four boards.

Allen Fomera carried the fight for the Sharks with 21 points and six rebounds.

Sharing the limelight were Rizal Technological University, which overwhelmed new member St. Francis, 67-56; and Enderun Colleges, which outsteadied Manuel Luis Quezon University, 78-68.

Three players combined for 39 points for the Thunder, who won over City University of Pasay, 90-74, last Tuesday.
