Minglanilla rallies to beat Consolacion and rule Cebu Under-21 cagefest
The Archangels claim the trophy and a check for P500,000.

CEBU CITY – The Minglanilla Archangels fought back from 14 points down in the fourth period to stun the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, 75-69, and emerge as the first champion of the 2017 Cebu Governor's Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament on Sunday at the University of San Carlos gym.

Before a crowd numbering in thousands, the Archangels showed steely resolve down the stretch to come away with the Game Three win and bag the P500,000 cash prize, while the Weavers pocketed P300,000.

Jiesel Tarrosa split his free throws but grabbed the offensive board and scored on a reverse lay-up to push the Archangels in front, 60-59, 4:05 to go.

Baskets by John Mangaron and Tarrosa pushed Minglanilla ahead by five, 64-59.

Tarrosa then delivered the killer blow in the game’s dying moments as he blocked a three-point attempt by Consolacion’s Patrick Yu and fed Lyle Eredera for an unmolested transition layup that gave the Archangels a 73-66 edge with under 30 seconds left in the deciding game.

Tarrosa finished with 20 points, Marc Glen Nebril scored 12 and John Mangaron added 11.

Yu paced Consolacion with 13 points, Patrick Motaño chipped in 11, while Froiland Maglasang and Jerick Gonzaga added 10 apiece.
