Mighty Sports demolishes Malaysia Dragons, enters Merlion Cup playoffs as top seed
Joseph Yeo goes for a drive.

MIGHTY Sports put its fluid offense in full display on Friday (Manile time) in a one-sided 105-78 win over Westports Malaysia Dragons in the Merlion Cup at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

Led by import Dewarick Spencer, the Filipinos secured a semifinal slot after topping Group B of the tournament last ruled by an Indonesian team 20 years ago.

Mighty Sports will now face the second seed in Group A in the penultimate day of the tournament on Saturday.

The Philippine representative went full throttle in the second period, turning a tight game into a virtual clinic after opening a 20-point lead on import Al Thornton's layup, 53-33.

Mighty Sports, coming off a 92-87 win over the Seoul Samsung Thunders, continued to pounce on the embattled Asean Basketball League (ABL) champions bannered by former Star Hotshots import Joel Wright.

They erected a comfortable 33-point cushion, 86-53, on Dewarick Spencer's free throws with 7:11 remaining in the payoff period.

The Dragons never recovered from there and bowed out of the tournament.
