MICHAEL Calisaan had 21 points and 12 rebounds as San Sebastian defeated University of the Philippines, 93-84, on Wednesday to sweep the preliminaries of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) NCR qualifiers at the Jose Rizal University gym.

The Stags swept Group B with a 2-0 slate. They will face Group A topnotcher and UCBL champions Colegio De San Lorenzo for a seat in the PCCL Elite Eight next month.

The San Sebastian-Colegio De San Lorenzo match is set on Thursday, 3 p.m. at the JRU gym.

UP held a 47-39 lead before San Sebastian went on a 20-8 run led by Calisaan to take control.

“I guess nagrerelax ’yung mga bata kasi they were just focused on playing offense kaya bumababa ng bumababa kasi we are not making our long shots. At least nabago ’yung isip nila,” said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya.

RK Ilagan had 14 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Alvin Capobres scored 10 for the Stags.

Trailing by 11 points, UP erected a 13-0 run to grab a 35-33 lead and was ahead, 40-37, at the half.

The Stags face a tough task against San Lorenzo, which is being led by Beninese import Soulemane Chabi Yo.

“Hopefully, everybody will step up kasi sagad si Michael ngayon. Hindi naman siya Superman. Sana he will have enough strength tomorrow para makipag-battle sa Colegio De San Lorenzo. Ang mahirap doon is magaling si Chabi Yo,” Macaraya said.

Paul Desiderio scored 23, while Juan Gomez de Liano had 18 points. They combined for eight triples for UP.
