NCAA champions Mapua Red Robins too much for UAAP titlist FEU in Freego Cup

MAPUA, Jose Rizal University and National University kept their share of the early lead after posting their second straight wins in the 10th Freego Cup at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.

Drawing 19 points from Clint Escamis, the NCAA champion Red Robins clobbered the UAAP titlists Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws, 79-48.

Toby Agustin led JRU to a 78-73 victory over defending champion Chiang Kai Shek College.

Despite missing all but one of his 10 tries from the 3-point zone, Agustin still finished with 20 points while four other teammates scored at least 10 points.

Chris Flored paced the Blue Dragons with 14 points while JC Luciano had a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards.

The NU Bullpups outlasted La Salle Greenhills, 86-82.

Rhyyan Amsale led the Bullpups with 24 points on of 10-of-20 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds.

University of Sto. Tomas also debuted on a winning note with a thrilling 85-81 win over Lyceum in the event also backed by Smart, Powerhouse and Home Depot, with with Gian Benzonan scoring 23 points and Val Fornillos adding 19.
