KRIS Porter put together a good all-around game of 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists as Ateneo beat Adamson, 84-75, on Friday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.

Mike Nieto finished with 14 points and seven boards for the Blue Eagles, who picked up their first win of the preseason tournament after losing to University of the East in overtime over the weekend.

The Blue Eagles bounced back after trailing, 35-39, at the half by outscoring the Falcons, 23-13, in the third period.

“We had 12 turnovers in the first half and we gave up 12 turnover points. We told the team to improve on that. But we focused more on defense because I felt there was a letdown. That’s our main focus and thrust,” said Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga.

Arespacochaga took the reins for Ateneo after head coach Tab Baldwin left the game early, being a guest analyst for Sports5 in its coverage of Game One of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals.

The Falcons, under new head coach Franz Pumaren, fell to 0-2.
