Kiefer Ravena to join Mighty in Merlion Cup straight from Texas Legends tryout

KIEFER Ravena is expected to join Mighty Sports just a day before the Merlion Cup kicks off in Singapore, but head coach Charles Tiu doesn't seem to be too worried about it.

After all, Ravena, currently in the US for training and set to try out for NBA D-League side Texas Legends, has previously suited up for the team and is pretty much familiar with everything including the system.

"Kiefer will be arriving a day before the tournament," Tiu bared. "He said after his tryout (Texas Legends), he'll be able to join us. That's why he's joining very late. We just have to wait for that."

"Anyway, he's played for us in the past so we're a bit familiar with him. He's a smart guy, he'll be able to fit in."

The two-time UAAP MVP was one of the two latest additions to the formidable Mighty roster bannered by imports Al Thornton, Hamady N'Diaye, Jones Cup MVP Dewarick Spencer, as well as naturalized player Marcus Douthit.

The Mighty crew - whose local group is led by PBA veteran Joseph Yeo, Fil-Canadian Matthew Wright, and ex-National U star Gelo Alolino - is eyeing no less than a gold-medal finish in the September 21-25 tournament.

And with the addition of Ravena and Yeo, Tiu is hoping the reinforced squad can pull through.

"Hopefully, we want to win it all but we have to understand the other teams are also  stronger," he said. "Talent-wise we're definitely much better especially sa local players. Hopefully we can just compete and if we're lucky enough will win the championship."

Mighty Sports is grouped with Seoul Samsung Thunders and Wesports Malaysia Dragons.
