JUMBO Plastic begins its bid for a second straight Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League title when it takes on newcomer Mighty Sports in the Chairman’s Cup opener on Sunday at Malolos Sports and Convention Center.

The Linoleum Giants battle Mighty Sports at 5 p.m. followed by the game between Sta. Lucia and Euro-Med.

Leading the Giants are ex-pros James Martinez, Marcy Arellano and AJ Mandani as well as Finals Most Valuable Player Jeff Viernes.

Kiefer Ravena, two-time UAAP MVP, heads Mighty Sports, which will be handled by former Adamson coach Mike Fermin with ex-Ateneo coach Bo Perasol as consultant.

Former Rain or Shine guard TY Tang, who retired late last year at age 30, returns to action to lead Mighty.

Jumbo Plastic also has Mapua’s Nigerian import Allwell Oraeme, while Mighty Sports parades Perpetual Help’s Cameroonian reinforcement Bright Akhuetie in the tournament supported by Ambucore, Accel, Hahn Manila, Gerry’s Grill and Spalding.

Southwestern University’s Landry Sanjo will suit up for the Sta. Lucia Realtors, while Euro-Med is still waiting for Centro Escolar’s Rodrigue Ebondo to finish his commitment in another league.
