KIEFER Ravena is thrilled to get words of encouragement from former NBA player Jimmer Fredette following their match-up in the title game of the Merlion Cup basketball tournament in Singapore on Sunday night.

Ravena got the ultimate test on Sunday during the Merlion Cup where he faced off against Fredette, a former college national player of the year in 2011 while playing for Brigham Young University before being drafted in the first round by the Milwaukee bucks - and traded to Sacramento - in the 2011 NBA draft.

Ravena finished with 12 points in the championship game against Fredette and the Shanghai Sharks, highlighting his game with a four-point play off Fredette that gave Mighty Sports a 77-73 lead.

Fredette, however, got the final say as he sank three free throws with no time left on the clock to hand the title to the Sharks. He finished with a game-high 41 points in the title game.

Ravena later had a photo taken with Fredette, who was gracious enough to encourage the two-time UAAP MVP in his dream to earn a spot with the Texas Legends in the NBA D-League this year.

“Sabi niya lang sa akin, I made it tough for him and he said he wanted to see me play in the future again,” said Ravena, recalling his conversation with Fredette. “From a player of his caliber, malaking bagay ‘yun sa akin bilang isang aspiring player."

Ravena, however, said he could have played better on defense in the championship game against the Sharks.

“I felt I could have done better. Kasi talo eh. ‘Yung effort nandoon talaga and nag-focus talaga ako kasi I watched all his tendencies,” said Ravena.
