Kenji Roman, JJ Sapinit show way as Tamaraws down Tigers to boost semis bid in Jumbo Cup

FER Eastern University drew big games from Kenji Roman and JJ Sapinit to beat University of Santo Tomas, 63-58, on Sunday, boosting its semifinal bid in the 2nd PCABL Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.

Roman produced another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to claim the Jumbo Plastic Player of the Game award, while Sapinit added 11 markers as FEU tied defending champion Chiang Kai Shek College for third to fourth places at 4-2.

University of the Philippines Integrated School made the race for the last two semis berth more intense with a 112-51 drubbing of Letran-B.

Allane Barles and Javy De Liano leading the way, the Junior Maroons built a 36-11 lead in the first quarter and padded their lead to 44 points at halftime, 65-21.

UPIS’ win created a three-way tie for fifth place with Hope Christian High School and UST at 3-4.

Reigning UAAP champion Ateneo – the second semifinalist after National University – hiked its record to 6-1 by crushing University of the East, 108-55.

Al Rosales won the Player of the Game award with his 16-point and two-rebound performance for Ateneo.
