Kai Sotto shines as Batang Gilas posts 66-point victory over Singapore in Seaba U-16 opener

KAI Sotto scored 17 points to lead Batang Gilas to a 108-42 victory over Singapore on Sunday in the 2017 Seaba Under-16 Championship at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Rence Padrigao also had an auspicious debut in international play with 14 points, six assists, and two steals for Batang Gilas.

The hosts raced to a 9-0 lead and never relinquished control of the contest.

“Start natin ng game, medyo nangangapa ’yung mga bata. Fortunately, naka-recover tayo right away nung nag-focus sila sa defense,” said Batang Gilas coach Mike Oliver.

Terrence Fortea had 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists as the Batang Gilas cagers took a 56-26 lead at the break.

No player from Singapore scored in double digits, with Lok Yao Tor and Bryan Tzee Long finishing with nine points each.
