FOES turn to friends as June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter have teamed up for a Gilas Pilipinas side that’s preparing for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in July.

Fajardo, who played against Slaughter for three years in Cebu's top school league Cesafi, is thrilled to be on the same side as his longtime college rival for the first time.

“Excited ako makasama si Greg,” the San Miguel Beer star slotman said of his Ginebra counterpart. “First time namin magkasama tapos sa Gilas pa – isang team lang yung ipaglalaban namin.”

Fajardo, the former University of Cebu star, banged bodies with Slaughter when the latter was anchoring University of Visayas, before moving to Ateneo.

It can be remembered that Slaughter almost became teammates with Fajardo at UC before the former ultimately decided to represent the Lancers.

The thought of the twin towers teaming up finally became reality as they shared the court as teammates for the first time on Monday night when the national team opened its once-a-week training camp at the Meralco gym.

For them to remain teammates, Fajardo hopes he and the rest of the team stay healthy after he begged off last time due to a recurring foot injury.

“Gagawin ko lahat makatulong lang ako sa team,” said the 6-foot-10 Fajardo, the reigning PBA MVP.  “Sana walang madisgrasya at ma-injury along the way sa mga practice namin at sa games sa PBA.”
