FEU Baby Tams snap five-game slump with narrow win over JRU Light Bombers in Freego Cup

FAR Eastern University finally showed its championship mettle while Mapua posted another lopsided win in the 10th Freego Cup held recently at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.

Undermanned in their first five games, the reigning UAAP champion Baby Tams downed Jose Rizal University, 52-49, thanks to a strong fourth quarter performance, outscoring the Light Bombers, 17-12, to surge ahead and nail their first win.

LJ Gonzales and Ramish Alforque led FEU with 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the annual preseason tournament.

The Mapua Red Robins, on the other hand, grabbed the solo lead with a 79-63 drubbing of the University of the East Junior Warriors in the tournament also backed by Smart, Powerhouse and Home Depot.

Warren Bonifacio topscored anew with 15 points while Clint Escamis and Mike Enriquez chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, as Mapua improved to 5-1.
