MIGHTY-Baliwag outlasted Gamboa Coffee in a tense semis duel, 83-79, and forged a finals showdown with the Mighty Sports All-Stars Friday night in the 5th Republica Cup at the Malolos Convention Center in Malolos, Bulacan.

Former PBA star Joseph Yeo, and veterans Chito Jaime and Larry Rodriquez came through with huge baskets down the stretch to finally take the fight out of the Coffee Makers in a see-saw and heated battle.

The game was briefly stopped with 30 seconds left with Mighty of Mayor Ferdie Estrella ahead by just 2, 81-79.

The winner-take-all match between Baliwag’s Mighty Sports and Caesar Wongchuking’s Mighty Sports is set Sunday also at the same venue.

Wongchuking’s Mighty Sports is backstopped by import Alejandro Dennison, Ola Adeogu, ex-pro Jerwin Gaco, University of the Philippines hotshot Paul Desiderio and NU’s Matt Salem.

The Mighty Sports All-Stars are gunning for their third title in the annual event.
