ATENEO is giving John Apacible a second chance as he makes a return to the Ateneo Blue Eagles lineup in the preseason, months after getting embroiled in a controversy that ended his UAAP season.

The controversial forward played for the Blue Eagles in Sunday’s Milcu Got Skills Summer Showcase match against De La Salle, where he contributed three points in their defeat to their longtime rivals.

Ateneo team manager Epok Quimpo said like the rest in the current Blue Eagles pool of players, the 6-3 forward has a chance to make the season lineup under new coach Tab Baldwin.

“Like I told him before, basta mag-aral at pumasa, makakalaro,” Quimpo said. “Lahat naman may chance.

Last October, Apacible was suspended by the school for the latter part of the last UAAP season after he was caught on video in a drunken rage while flashing a 'Councilor' vanity plate.

Apacible later issued a public apology for his actions.

Quimpo said Apacible has been attending practices of the team since serving out his suspension. He was also ordered to do community service, the team manager added.

"‘Yung disciplinary action naman niya, nag-serve na siya ng community service.”

Quimpo, however, made it clear that no one is sure of making it to the UAAP team as the second semester is still ongoing.

The second semester’s grades will be the basis for players' eligibility for UAAP Season 79.

“Hindi pa buo ‘yung team talaga. Kahit ‘yung mga high school na kaka-graduate lang kasama diyan,” said Quimpo.
